...As Yourself
A commandment within a commandment. In the 12th chapter of Mark we read that we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. This is a commandment within a commandment. Basically we are commanded here to love ourselves first, but then to love everyone else in the world as much as we love ourselves.
What does this mean?...
In the book of James we read that faith without works is useless. And when you look at the word LOVE you see that it is an Action Word or a verb. To love your neighbor as yourself, requires action.
Read James 1:22 below:
22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.
So when you love your neighbor as yourself, you have heard the word of God and its instructions, but then, it is up to you to DO SOMETHING to show that you have heard it and understand it.
What will you do to show you love your neighbors?
Keep in mind that neighbors are not just the people who live beside you in the next house, neighbors are in your community, in your city, in your state, in your country, and in the world...your world.
What can you do to make changes?
How can you show others you love them?
